Dracula's Gold Coast Dress Code: What to Wear, and the Three Things You Can't

Dracula's dress code is smart casual, with no board shorts, singlets or thongs; dressing up in black or gothic style is welcome. Shorts, shoes and costumes, explained.

Updated October 2026

The Dracula’s Gold Coast dress code is smart casual, with three things not allowed: board shorts, singlets and thongs (in Australia, thongs are flip-flops). Beyond those, the venue’s own advice is to wear “whatever makes you feel alive (or dead)”, and plenty of guests take it literally, in black, gothic looks or full costume.

The rule, in full

AllowedNot allowed
Smart casual: a shirt or top, trousers, a skirt or a dressBoard shorts
Black, gothic, vampire or costume looksSinglets (sleeveless vests)
Neat shorts with a shirt and proper shoesThongs (flip-flops)

The list is the venue’s. Nothing on it requires a jacket, heels or formal wear, and nothing forbids dressing up.

Can you wear shorts?

Board shorts, the beach kind, are named on the no list. Other shorts are not, so tailored or neat shorts with a shirt and closed shoes fit the smart-casual rule; a swimsuit cover-up and beach sandals do not. If you are unsure about an outfit, the box office answers on (07) 5563 4900.

Dressing up

Dressing up is welcome, and the show itself is a parade of corsets, leather and stage make-up. A birthday or hens’ group can pick a theme to match, and the venue also holds Halloween parties. Two practical points:

  • The Ghost Train. You ride it to get in, so skip anything that will not fit in a ride car or that you would not want to sit in for three courses.
  • Shoes. The Ghost Train and the cocktail bar are up stairs.

Comfort counts

The whole night is indoors, and you are seated for most of three to four hours, so comfort matters as much as the look. Broadbeach evenings are mild much of the year; a light layer covers the walk in and the ride home.
